FAQ

Where in Colorado are you going to build your off grid life?

After may months of searching, we finally found our property 60 miles west of Pueblo Colorado, in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. We are located near the towns of Silvercliffe and Westcliffe Colorado.

What made you choose Colorado and your retirement destination ?

It really started when we met some great people here in Wisconsin, after becoming good friends they moved out to Colorado which was a bummer. But hey, we got to go on vacation out to where they live, and our very first trip out to Colorado, we were hooked. The area is just amazing with views and mountains that pictures cant do justice. From that first trip we knew we had a destination for our retirement. This is where we are today, in the quest to pickup our current lives and make the move.

What are the hurdles you have to overcome for your move to Colorado?

  • Employment opportunities in the area we are moving to are somewhat limited, we hope to have career changes that will allow us to work remotely.
  • Cost of living is higher than where we currently live in Wisconsin, so that has to be factored into the new careers and the cost to build our new home.
  • Remote living, living in the mountains of Colorado present challenges with everything from grocery shopping to basic services like garbage disposal and mail service, plus many more. You have to be comfortable with giving up modern conveniences, like local shopping and restaurnts and learning to adjust how you shop and plan your life activities.
  • Finding and working with local contractors, to get our home built.
